THE 1960'S SAD STORY OF THE COLLASPE OF RELIGEOUS LIFE OF NUNS!

‘NON SERVIAM’: SALE OF  SHUTTERED CONVENT RECALLS SISTERS’ REVOLT

NEWS: US NEWS

Below is an excerpt of an excellent article that explains the meteoric death of post Vatican II religious life.  The Immaculate Heart of Mary nuns of Los Angeles should not be confused with the order in Philadelphia with sisters in Savannah--the IHM's.

However the nuns' story in this article most orders of nuns in the USA imitated. Here is a very sad excerpt, but you can read the complete fascinating story HERE!

Among the hundreds of IHM casualties was Jeanne Cordova.

Jeanne Cordova, after embracing lesbianism

Weakened by prayerlessness and bewildered by the chaos her calling had become, the young novice eventually succumbed to lesbian seduction.
"Both embittered and sexualized by her experience in the convent," Jones writes, Cordova abandoned Catholicism and became a militant gay activist.
Looking back on the disintegration of her life, the collapse of her faith, Cordova later recalled:
They promised me monastic robes, glorious Latin liturgy, the protection of the three sacred vows, the peace of saints in a quiet cell, the sisterhood of a holy family. But I entered the religious life the year John XXIII was taking it apart: 1966. The fathers of the Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church were sitting at the Vatican Council destroying in the name of change, my dreams. Delete Latin ritual. Dump the habit. Damn holy obedience. Send nuns and priests out into the real world. If I had wanted the real world, I'd have stayed in it.
"All I had ever wanted to be was a nun," she said.
Jeanne Cordova died on January 10, 2016.
Her former order will soon follow. Today, five IHM sisters remain, with two arguing — at the Vatican itself — that their archdiocese has no authority over them or their shuttered convent.

This reminds me of when Erhard Seminars Training began to enter the business world. It seems the psychologists mentioned in the article had an ideal group (nuns) pre assembled for their skillful manipulation. It also is the reason why today I become cautious around religious leaders (aka priests) that have an abundance of training in modern psychotherapy. In the pews I wonder if I am not that ideal preassembled audience for someone trained in psychological manipulation. Today it gives me reason to change parishes. Its not just history, this stuff is still going on. It explains the modern "reconciliation room."

John XXIII passed away several years prior to her entry in 1966. At any rate, neither he nor his successors--save the present one--ever advocated the disintegration she experienced.

As I was living through those times back in the 60's and '70's, having never known what the nuns were tossing out, I wondered why they were all leaving in droves and losing all the piety and power they actually seemed to hold. I always wondered what history was going to say about those times, and what happened, and the end result. Now the truth comes out, and what actually happened comes out. It doesn't take a theologian or saint to see how the devil set off a nuclear bomb on the Catholic Church, and took out a great number of souls.

The story of Jeanne Cordova is an eye opener. I wonder how many others there are like her - those who were mauled by the demon from within a religious order, and order who had thrown out the only protections against the devil they had: the rule and prayer.

Modern man thinks the devil is a figure, or a symbol. Some priests (or is it many, I don't know) think so too. I look at what happened to Jeanne Cordova, and if that's not the devil in action, well, then, I don't know what is. Poor soul.

God bless.

St. John XXIII was dead in 1966, so she sounds really credible, just like fake catholic John Kerry referring to Pope Pius XXIII. This community was living in the land of fruit and nuts - Kalifornia, so we should probably cut them some slack!

The story of Jeanna Cordova and the other nuns is tragic and heart-wrenching.

The below sums up what transpired after the application of humanistic psychology on the order:

"It was a disaster"
"We corrupted a whole raft of religious orders on the West Coast in the 1960s by getting the nuns and priests to talk about their distress," Coulson summarized."
"It took about a year and a half" to destroy the Immaculate Heart order, he lamented. "We overcame their traditions, we overcame their faith."
"Our grant had been for three years," Coulson related, "but we called off the study after two because we were alarmed about the results. We thought we could make the IHMs better than they were, and we destroyed them."
Finally:
The Los Feliz hilltop where holy women once worked and prayed will be home to an apostate Evangelical pop star made famous by a song about a lesbian kiss.

It is the firm hand and true direction of the leadership of a religious order that keeps those in their charge faithful to their vows, and to the charisms and the rule of the order. When those in leadership positions are compromised or corrupted, it has a deleterious and even devastating effect on those for whom they are responsible.

I had another thought about the referenced story of how humanistic psychology was able to destroy many orders of religious women.

Considering the actions of Eve in the Garden of Eden, and the actions of these religious who belonged to orders that often were 100's of years old, I wonder, what is it about us women that Satan finds so easy to manipulate via disobedience? Because the actions they took did not just destroy the one woman who made the decision, but many. Many, many.

God bless.

Actually, such reports were the coin of ordinary conversation back in those days. I recall my pastor coming back from a summer retreat in California and telling of priests and nuns shedding all their clothes and getting (all together) into hot tubs to get in touch with themselves. And presumably with each others selves--previously fully orthodox and strait-laced, he later ran off and got married (to an ex-nun, I heard).

I went back and looked at the above picture. The nuns appear happy and evidencing an esprit de corps we used to see with young, women, religious. Another Vatican II Disaster story. My Aunt was a religious superior during this time. She said the biggest mistake her order and other orders made was not setting up a parallel structure for the experimentation, in order to see what might actually might be beneficial change before proceeding with the entire order. She said it was particularly cruel, in retrospect, to subject the older women religious to a firestorm of change which caused so many of them extreme anguish in their last years.

"She said it was particularly cruel, in retrospect, to subject the older women religious to a firestorm of change which caused so many of them extreme anguish in their last years."

Matt. 24:9-13 “Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name. At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many. Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved."

Revelation 7:13-17 "Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. For this reason, they are before the throne of God; and they serve Him day and night in His temple; and He who sits on the throne will spread His tabernacle over them. They will hunger no longer, nor thirst anymore; nor will the sun beat down on them, nor any heat; for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

I expect many of the older sisters who lived this white martyrdom wept many tears in the privacy of their rooms at night.

So often when we are young we hear about the misery inflicted on the followers of Christ, and we think that happened long ago and far away. But if we are serious about being a Catholic Christian it is evident the demon still rips and tears at us in a bloodless crucifixion.

May God bless these women who suffered so much as Satan ravaged their religious orders. Who would have dreampt such a thing would occur?

God bless.
