WHEN APPLAUSE AND WILD ACCLAMATION IN THE CHURCH ARE TOTALLY JUSTIFIED!

One cannot help but wonder if this raucous reception for His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI is a loving sign of affection and support for the pope embroiled in yet more controversy. This particular setting of Tu Es Petrus is very beautiful too as the Holy Father enters this morning the the Duomo of Milano, an Ambrosian facility. The Holy Father is on a three day pastoral visit of this wonderful city of culture and fashion. The male announcer speaks impeccable Italian with wonderful enunciation and diction which is not always common for male Italians.
INDEED, YOU ARE PETER!

As I understand it, it has been part of Italian culture for a very long time to be very loud in church when the Pope comes to visit. When he comes to the USA, the parish where he celebrates Mass is usually noticeably quieter.

The thing they used to move His Holiness around is not the new platform. It looks like a converted hotdog cart.

One good thing I notice is that the cathedral has a chapter of Canons, and they are wearing the fantastic mantelletta! It's a shame there are precisely zero chapters of canons in the USA. On a related note, I think bishops who are not diocesan bishops should wear the mantelletta, as is traditional. :P
