A PONTIFICAL SOLEMN SUNG NUPTIAL MASS IN THE EF FORM

I've never celebrated a Pontifical one of these but I have celebrated two of these as a High Mass!

Borrowing your phrase, good Father, "Problems I see: Clutter, clutter, clutter!"

How many bishops, monsignors, arch-priests, priests, deacons, sub-deacons, and assorted other clerical and semi-clerical hangers-on does it take to witness a marriage? I count, at one point, 14.

My dear Pater, people are not clutter in the EF or OF, my, my! We're all created in the image and likeness of God.

"One of the things that I have like since eliminating the chalice is that we don't have a hoard of people approaching the altar at the Lamb of God to be Extra Ordinary Ministers of the Chalice." Your words...

People, fewer than those in the solemn pontifical, are a "hoard" but not a "clutter." Okay......

Yes, so I suppose you glory in the 50 to 100 priest concelebrants at ordinations, chrism Mass and other times when a person who has died knows a tremendous number of priests and they con celebrate the funeral or the same about a nuptial Mass--What if there had been, let's say about 50 priests at an OF Pontifical Nuptial Mass? Would you have called them clutter? No they'd be a hoard! Now clutter refers to book cases in sanctuaries with a tiny, well dressed infant of Prague and then crammed next to it a place for an singing ensemble with each person having their own microphone and bopping their heads to the trendy tune they sing as the people focus their attention on their antics and away from the action at the altar which is in space so cluttered with furnishings that are too big, bulky and of no artistic merit whatsoever and then ugly banners to denote the season and the presider's chair smack dab in the center as though the celebrant is the star of the show!

Father, have you celebrated a traditional Rite of Betrothal? My boyfriend and I are intetested in learning more about this.

The nuptial Mass follows the exchange of vows and rings which is like a prelude to the Mass, but separate from it. The Mass could be sung which is called "High" or spoken, which is called "low" however, solos could be sung at the offertory and Communion in the low Mass with organ procession and recessional.

We've looked into the nuptual mass, which is what we'd like to have. We were wanting to have our engagement blessed. We understand there's a betrothal ceremony in the traditional rite. That's what we were wondering about.

That I don't know, there is a blessing for an engaged couple in the post-Vatican II Book of Blessings.
