CATHOLICS IN PHILADELPHIA WON'T ALLOW ANYTHING OR ANYONE TO TAKE THEIR FAITH AWAY. I WANT TO SAY "ALLELUIA" BUT CAN'T BECAUSE IT IS LENT!

READ ABOUT FAITH IN PHILADELPHIA STRONGER THAN SCANDAL BY PRESSING THIS SENTENCE. I THINK THERE IS A HINT OF FORGIVENESS IN THIS FAITH TOO, WHICH TO SOME IS A SCANDAL. BUT ISN'T THE CROSS A SCANDAL TO SOME?

Sounds like they are trying a balanced approach. Forgiveness does not mean what was done is OK.

I would agree. Penance is necessary and due to the gravity of the situation and the betrayal of vows, harming of innocence and the rest of it, being laicized and imprisoned according to the dictates of civil law is also needed. A bishop or cardinal who is also responsible for the endangerment of a child in an egregious way should step down and face civil penalties if applicable.

Please see my comments re FJM's March 8 post when the news broke - too hard & sad to rewrite them, but I am not too tired to keep praying for understanding, mercy & a huge dose of grace. -pgal
