I HAVE ACCESS TO A COMPUTER TO POST AND LOOK AT SAN ANTONIO THROUGH THE EYES OF MY CAMERA AND PHOTOGRAPHY!

The tex/mex food is great, the weather is wonderful. But what will next week in North Dakota be like? Northerners all seem to have brain freeze when it comes to the Church, I think it is the ice and snow that so compormises their common sense.

That second picture, the Church, looks like the interior of St. Joseph's!

That first picture is terrible! The celebrant is facing the congregation and the font is WAY too big.

Hey, there are some of us "northerners" who are with the Church. I admit that my alma mater, St. John's is out in progressive land but my diocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis is with our Pope 100%. Evidence of this can be seen in what happened when our great Archbishop Nienstedt visited St. John's a few weeks ago. We had the good (the archbishop who refused activists the Eucharist), the bad (the rainbow button wearing protesters) and the ugly (the priest/monk/professor who then gave them communion).
We are getting our act together up here but keep up the good work of spreading orthodoxy wherever you can.

Vianney, I do like northerners, but when you look at the landscape of the Church why in the world are so many of you moving south? Must be to get away from all the flakiness, and not just snowflakes! But indeed the bishop of Minniapolis is great and God bless him, the northlands have hope!

Am I an airhead or did I miss something with these conversations? I understand pin's comment and squeaker's but was anonymous supposed to be posted somewhere else. :-) I am totally confused. I suppose Vianney was only venting because of the comment made by you in reference of 'northerners' ??? Have a wonderful blessed time Fr, we miss you hurry home!

St. Mary's Church in San Antonio is a replacement of a church that was ruined in the great flood of 1928(?).From my reading, it is modeled after a church in Massachusetts. The interior was remodeled about 20 years ago and the main altar, side altars and marble railings were left intact amazingly. It is staffed by the Marianist Priests who also staff St. Mary's university in San Antonio. The Blessed Sacarament has been moved to the left side altar and the marble railing on the right (St. Joseph side) has been cut into to make room for passage.(?) The church is clean but reverence (in my opinion) is lacking. The church is in a high tourist area yet, frequently pigeon droppings cover the outside steps. There is a new pastor so maybe he will restore that which used to be. Mrs. Elena Kennedy was a patron of the church and when she left her ranch in Kenedy Tx there was a rush to clean the interior.(1969..I know this first hand) Note: Research The Kennedy Ranch and the Catholic Church. Also Mrs. Sarita Kennedy and the Catholic Church. Interesting: The Archdiocese of San Antonio, The Trappist Monks and the Vatican all after her estate.

also, the Marianist had an interest in her estate. I read all of this in Time Magazine, or was it Life? Wonder who won the bunk of her estate.
Mrs. Elena Kennedy left her ranch house to the Marinist for a retreat center. Mrs. Elena Kennday told her brother Albert Suess that the Great Room has a 60'X60' mademade oriential rug. Albert Suess is who I worked for while in college. I was 19 yrs old at the time.

Anonymous @ 4:13: St. Mary's Church in San Antonio is run by the Oblates (OMI), not the Marianists. I'm sure the Oblates at St. Mary's Church being long-time neighbors of the Marianists at the old St. Mary's College location is causing your confusion. Also, it was the Oblates, not the Marianists, who received La Parra from Sarita Kenedy East, not from her sister-in-law, Elena Seuss Kenedy. Mrs. East died in 1961 and hers was the estate that saw 20 years of litigation between her family, a Trappist Monk, the foundation she established, and the dioceses the foundation was to benefit.
